Who should apply?

Applicants to the ETC must be a graduate of an undergraduate program from a college or university. Otherwise, there is no special requirement, undergrad major, or professional experience expected from our applicants. There is also no minimum grade average or test scores that we look for.

We do expect applicants to have a demonstrated proficiency in some area (andthe bounds of those areas are defined only by your imagination). In other words, an applicant should be really good at at least one thing which they think will contribute to the ETC. Are you a... superb 3D modeler? master code monkey? stagemanager extraordinaire? talented screenwriter? mesmerizing mechanical engineer? theatrical lighting expert? Then the ETC might be the place for you.

In addition, we have found that students with passion for what they do, who are self-motivated and have a capacity for critical thinking tend to excel in this program. If you do not have such qualities, you may not be happy at the ETC, and you may want to visit our list of similar programs to find a place better suited to your needs. Furthermore , if you are interested in learning one particular skill-set (how to animate, for instance, or how to program in Java) then the ETC probably isn't the place for you, either. The bottom line, though, is that at the ETC, we are open and flexible and we expect our applicants to be the same.

ETC-Global announces Rolling Admission

Beginning August 1, 2006, admission to the Entertainment Technology Center – Global will take place on a rolling basis.  This move will allow potential students to apply to the ETC-Global at any time.

Currently, ETC-Global offers students the opportunity to study in 2 locations: Adelaide, Australia and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.  Soon, additional locations will be available in Singapore, and Korea.

As part of the new global calendar, we have the opportunity to begin a new ETC-Global class during different times of the year. Currently, a new ETC-Global class will begin in Adelaide Australia every February, and in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania every August.

What does Rolling Admission mean?
Once you have decided to apply to the ETC-Global, complete the application process (http://www.etc.cmu.edu/Global/admission/process.html), and submit your application when you are ready.  Once we receive a complete application, we will review your qualifications and notify you of an admission decision as soon as possible.  If admitted, plan to begin your studies at the next immersion semester date and location.

Once I am admitted, do I have the opportunity to choose my immersion semester date and location?
So as not to delay your studies at the ETC-Global, we strongly recommend you begin classes at the next available immersion semester site and date.  However, we will consider deferments when necessary.

Are there any application deadlines?
No!  We will review your application once everything is complete and received by our office. If admitted, your decision letter will specify the immersion semester date and location you have been admitted to.
