The final entry.

This has been a fun semester. The last few weeks have really flown by. There are so many people to thank. Thanks to our advisors, Mike Christel and Chris Klug. Thanks to our clients, Arnold, Rich, and the whole team at Microsoft.

Good luck to the team next semester who will be doing their project on Microsoft’s campus. That’s going to be so exciting.

To recap the last few weeks, on November 19, 2010, we put together a short video of our game play showing almost final versions of our various screens. Unfortunately the recording of the screen that initiated the game was corrupt. Watch the video below:

We had our final presentation on December 6, 2010, and it went really well. You can watch it here:

And view our slides here:

Our client, Arnold, had really great things to say at the conclusion of our project:

Awesome job! I can’t believe how much progress you guys made since the last playtest. Clearly the “goals” were met. The system is quite playable, and shows what the experience could be like. Most of the feedback is “polish” to actually ship a real game.

Thanks again to all involved.
Happy holidays!

Playtest 5

A few days ago we had our final playtest for the semester. Lucky participants got lunch from Five Guys and a chance to win Halo:Reach or Halo 3:ODST.

It was a blast! We had our client, Arnold, play with us from Microsoft Headquarters in Redmond. He is good at Texas Hold ‘Em.

Arnold ended up winning the game, so we gave Halo:Reach to the second place winner, Thom Och.

Congratulations also to KP Pandurangaiah for winning the drawing for Halo 3:ODST.

Week 15

This upcoming week is Week 15 of our semester. We’ll be holding one final playtest on Wednesday, December 1, so people can play what we created. Next Monday, December 6, will be our final presentation.

It has been a fun semester working with the team at Microsoft. Fortunately some lucky ETC students have the opportunity to work with them again next semester. And to make it even cooler they’ll be working at Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington.

Check out our updated 3 Minute Promo video.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We hope everyone had a delicious meal yesterday for Thanksgiving.

Since we were busy presenting our project during Soft Opening we don’t have many pictures. But hopefully our 3 minute promo video will make up for the lack of pictures. Enjoy.

And here’s our 30 second promo video:

Soft Opening

Over the weekend we worked to prepare for our Soft Opening. We rearranged the room to best convey the idea of multi-location, multi-screen gameplay. I’ll post pictures soon, but just imagine what it would look like if Ikea and Best Buy had a baby. :)

Our Soft Opening went really well today. The team is proud of what we were able to accomplish and plan on squeezing in a few more bells and whistles before our final presentation. We’re also making sure the code is well commented along with documentation of any bugs or issues we discovered.
