Building Virtual Worlds

An interdisciplinary collaboration course which brings students from Art, Architecture, Drama, Design, and Computer Science together to build interactive virtual worlds. Students were randomly formed into groups and given two weeks to develop a concept, do design work, implement, and "guest test" their worlds.  For each assignment, the class critiques the work of their peers at both the interim and final stages.  The students were then randomly re-shuffled for the next assignment, building a total of six different "worlds" during the semester. In its first two years, the end-of-semester exhibition for this course has become one of the best-known events on the Carnegie Mellon campus.
