Statement of Purpose:
The Earth Theater Project aims to produce innovative new content for panoramic and dome-style theaters and to explore engaging modes of audience interactivity. It is an ongoing collaboration between the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) and the Earth Theater at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History,

Facility:
The Earth Theater is a partial-dome planetarium style theater located at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh, PA. See the System page for more information.

Project Goals:
  • To create a robust, operable, educative, and entertaining show about dinosaurs that can run in rotation in the Earth Theater.
  • To integrate the ETC's technology with SkySkan, Inc's Spice Multimedia Control System.
  • To methodically investigate the effects of interactivity and immersion on a large audience.
  • Project Outcome:
The project yielded some very interesting insights into audience responses to a collective interactive experience, and the ETC's Panoramic Real-time Interaction System is now able to be driven through the Spice Multimedia Control System. See the Results page for more information.
