Week 14

Hi, all

This week, we presented what we had to faculty at soft opening. We had all our faculty member play through our whole experience and gathered a lot of useful feedbacks, based on which we polish our app. We did not encounter any questions were unprepared for. Based on the playtests we have been able to perform and with a little trust in our experts to fill in things we can’t test, we can explain the reasoning behind every design decision about our app.

About the art which our faculty member concerned the most in the half presentation, a few minor changes have been made to the seal and turtle faces since softs, but generally they have been left the same as our clients and demographic seemed to like the art style, and faculty also didn’t have any major critiques.

Here is the walkthrough the app we have for the soft presentation:

For the app itself, we got the following feedback:

  • 2 people having trouble wiping the screen on lower end device (iPad 2).
  • The window for wiping away the ink is too big.
  • Change jellyfish answer text also to green when selected.
  • Click the question text to repeat the sound.
  • Poke the bubble during transition to add more fun.
  • Unify the photo art with the background.
  • At the end turtle says “one more special place I want to show you” might be a trauma reminder.
  • Order of the seaweed answer UI is kind of random.
  • Make the result panel information standout (highlight color for high score/yes).
  • Too much animation kind of distracting.
  • Pacing of the ocean part is kind of too slow.
  • Seal eyebrows should be changed during the transition from happy days to lets answer questions (concerned).
  • Transitions need polishing e.g. wave transitions need sound.

Based on these feedbacks, we polished our app: speed up the pacing, fix glitches, make UI more visible, change the wording and etc. With these minor changes for polish, we are ready to call Edelweiss TSA (trauma screening app) complete!

This week, we are also archiving our project, shooting promotion video and getting ready for handing out our final assets. We look forward to presenting our work to visitors at the Spring Showcase and at final presentations.

Overall, this was a very educational semester and we are extremely grateful to our client, Larisa Munsch and Allegheny Health Network, our specialists, Dr. Judith Cohen and Dr. Anthony Mannarino from Allegheny General Hospital, and to the ETC and especially our faculty advisers John Dessler and Ralph Vituccio for all their input and guidance throughout the past few months.
