Week4 -News Letter

By Elizabeth Won

Hi, everyone! This is Elizabeth from Funival.

This week we kept working on two mini games, ice cream game and duck fond game. As a team, we discussed how we can improve our game play for each games.

Our programmer, Ryan spent lots of time figuring out physics for ice cream scoop. We had an early prototype that ice cream cone controlled by the keyboard and we were thinking of making left and right section on the mobile devices. By pressing the left and the right button, the cone moves to catch scoops comes out from the ice cream machine. Even though it was just for testing purpose, the movement felt too mechanical. So we changed from tapping to tilting mechanism. We quickly implemented acceleroemeter to mobile device so that the movement of the cone looks natural and more fun to play.  Also we have interesting animation for scoops. Once the scoops reaches a certain height, the ice cream shows damping animation.

Chuan worked on duck pond game. Now we have controller for both a duck keeper and fisherman.  Fisherman can catch the ducks and by tilting the phone or tablet and tapping the screen while the duck keeper can look at the phone or tablet to close ducks’ mouth.

I made User Interface for game selection and role selection menu. On the screen, it shows 4 players’ empty circles indicating that players can choose a role they want.  On the controller, players can see either ‘fisherman’ or duck keeper’. I also worked on making poster, half sheet for branding. Tiffa worked on our team photo.

Gina made a cool duck pond 3d model, which hasn’t been implemented yet but it would look great once we see the final version. She also worked on logo for our project this week.

So we got lots of feedback on controller and game play mechanic from the client, OCCO, during last week’s meeting. And we are going to improve the game based on the feedback. Next week is Quarater already! We are going to make each games more polished so that they are playable.
