Week 2

This week was a short week for Future Tech due to the Labor Day holiday. Nonetheless, the team conducted extensive research about world issues, and discussed the modding tool and process over the course of the week. On Friday, we were finaly able to meet with 2K/Firaxis. They will be giving us creative freedom for the project and asked us to come up with inspirational and innovative ideas about how to keep people engaged in the game and the community while addressing a real world issue. The client will be giving us access to Hansoft, a project management software, which wil definitely help us to streamline and work more efficiently. Furthermore, they mentioned that an updated version of the modding tool wil be released in late October. However, we should continue using the current modding tool that is available, due to possible instability and bug issues with the new tool. Finally, the client does not expect us to deliver a polished product, but Future Tech hopes to exceed their expectations.

In the meantime, we are working hard on branding the project and team through the website, poster, and half sheets. The team will continue to conduct research and brainstorm ideas over the weekend, and discuss the outcome next week.

Week 1

The team met several times over the course of the first week. On Monday, we started by setting up the project room and discussed each team member’s strengths and potential roles that we could each take on. By Wednesday, we finalized our decisions regarding each team members’ roles and responsibilities. Elwin and Jennifer wil be co-producers and wil divide up the production workload. Carey and Seewon wil be taking on the creative work as 2D artists. The lead programming role will be taken by Pei-Lin. Megan and Shaveen will be our technical artists and Kaiyang wil be our designer. Additionaly, most of the team members wil also be taking on secondary roles such as sound designer and support programmer to compliment our team. Drew, our project advisor, provided us with some information about the client and our contacts at 2K Games and Firaxis. We contacted our client regarding their availability to meet with us for our very first meeting. Greg, SVP Product Development at 2K Games, informed us that Kate, Director of PD Operations, was not in the office this week, and that they would be in touch early next week regarding their availability.

During our Friday meeting, we decided on “Future Tech” as our team name after an extensive brainstorm. Our core hours wil be Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2PM to 6PM, in which our team members are required to be in the project room. Finaly, to end a very hot Friday afternoon, we conducted some Civ V research by playing the game, and even held a
multiplayer session with the team. Further research wil be conducted over the weekend where we wil be looking deeper into Civ V, the modding tools and current world problems.
