Episode Eight: Putting It Together

In our week before halves, our major goal was to put together all the pieces we had created separately together.

Christian spent time migrating our battle system over to our check- in system and syncing the two: building towards the full experience we want to create. In addition to this migration, Christian finished the final pieces on our battle system!

With the battle system completed, we immediately scheduled testing and received great feedback! Nearly all playtesters had a positive experience with the battle system: experiencing hard-fought victories and rough losses. The Locanimals’ movesets were received well too– players noted they felt they were all unique to their characters.

During out battle critique we also had several conversations about our game and Pokemon.
Most players in our target age range were very comfortable with the similarities our game shares with Pokemon, as they are genre standards. They also did like some of the changes we did to the system (i.e., dropping elements, adding cooldowns). Overall, a bit reassuring, though we have some more work to do to help differentiate ourselves!

Another highlight was presenting at the Remaking Cities Congress. Many city and government officials were interested in our project for what it could do for cities’ local businesses and industry.

For the rest of our team, Erica made great progress creating more UI and Locanimal sounds. Dani continued to hone and develop the Battle UI (along with creating some environments for battling!). John and Phil worked on finishing up SCOT_ETC and then shifted to fixing previous Locanimals based on last week’s testing.

Now heading into the weekend, the team prepares for Quarters and trying to fix bugs so we can live demo for the rest of the ETC!
