Episode Eleven & Twelve: Testing Positive

With our halves presentation behind us, the team has shifted into playtesting mode: iterating on our existing work and adding to the app.

The past two weeks have been somewhat arduous–not in the volume of work that needs to be created, but in figuring out what to implement. We had a regroup meeting at the beginning of Week 11, where we choreographed the final weeks of our project.

We smoothed out our initial testing complications and got some great response from our first batch of playtesters. We had over 250 check-ins with 10 playtesters in our first week. So far, playtesters have collected an average of 4-5 Locanimals. We’ve found that this comes from some of the Locanimals being hard to find (i.e., Plumerie) or simply too strong to beat (i.e., Polift, Raycoon).

As the results from our first round of playtests come in, we continue to move forward. Erica is focusing on completing the rest of the Locanimals sound effects. In addition, she created a “victory” theme to play after a match is won. Phil is working on animations, and has completed four animations for each of our starters. John is focusing on managing our playtests and helping Christian with design.

Most of our current progress is being done through Christian and Dani. We have spent time finessing our overall user experience and flow–spending a few days trying to smooth out the check-in process. Christian has also been reworking the app to take into account new demands on UI (in addition to implementing UI elements). Dani has also had to revise UI–a big change we made was making our battle screen go horizontal instead of vertical.

Now the team is preparing for softs and opening our game up to a far larger group of playtesters!
