Locanimals Quest: Weeks One + Two

So, the semester kicked off with a flurry of meetings, planning, brainstorming, and general pondering.

In our first week, the team conducted a series of meetings to help us frame the semester and what we’d like to deliver. We started off by answering key questions:

Big picture – What did we want our final product to be? How could we make this appealing to VC and investment?

Ideation – What are all the different things we could do? What features do we want?

Prioritization – Which things will actually help us achieve our big picture goals?

From there, the team realized that certain goals took priority over many others: Namely, making the game as fun as possible to play. The battle system was considered the most pressing thing to work on. Despite advice from numerous ETC professors and guests, it became clear to us from our playtests last semester, conversations with our playtesters, and our gut, that if we want people to play a location-based game, they need a game to play.

Because of this key decision, we decided that we would bring on an additional programmer (the amazing Jon Lew), to help us on the “Quest” front, helping us deliver another key feature (which we will discuss more in our next sprint).

Another new team member joining is the luminous Colleen Casey, who will be assisting the team develop our social media presence. We’ll see more of her work later into the semester.

More good stuff to come in the weeks ahead.
