Week 6

In week 6, we made a lot of progress!

Based on quarter feedback, we changed almost the entire story and whole design.

I think in quarter we received a lot of feedback but some of them said that what we have is more like a game instead of a story. That changes many things and we realize that we probably need to change our working process. We know how to develop a game no matter what that game is about and what the style of that game is. But it seems that developing a story experience is a little different comparing with making a pure game. Developing a story needs a lot of details to make the story curve work and a complete story line to see if our story make sense. We feel like we cannot finish it step by step. We need a core to be the heart of our story and everything in our story should have some relationship with that core.  But for now we do not have a center theme and our basic concept value is not that strong. So we feel we need to change our story a lot and reconstruct everything we have.

A good part is that we have a really productive Monday and Tuesday! We come up with some entire new stuff and based on those things, we edit our story to make it more like a experience instead of a game. We changed the emotion that we want to express from Satisfied -> Sacrifice to Scared -> Satisfied and Brave. Right now our story makes more sense and we feel good about it!

New basic storyline:

  1. You are afraid of underwater, and in your dream you are falling deep underwater
  2. You do not know what to do, you hear some weird sound and the environment is really dark
  3. Suddenly you can see several fishes with light inside and they can light up small area around you
  4. You try to let the fish come to you and they can help you feel a little relaxed.
  5. Suddenly a giant shark comes and scared all fishes away, and the environment becomes dark again
  6. Eventually you see many jellyfish who can light up the environment again, and those jellyfish scares shark away.
  7. You are no long underwater because you know how the underwater looks like

In this new story line, the biggest challenge we have is how to make user feel really scared at beginning. If we give them a feeling that they are afraid of water, i think we are pretty success at that point. And after that, it will be easier for us to give user some hopes and make whole story continue.
