Week 12

This Thursday, we went to Colonial Campus and brought our game to do play test with the students. We asked for the original group of students which keep play testing with us to test the game play,  new art, and leader board.

At first, we showed our main character picture, created by Sophia. This character will show up during the background story part, like the pictures below.

After that we show how the team score and leader board look like. Picture 1 will show up on the TV screen after the battle is end. It will show the team score and detailed information of every team member. At this page, you can also check the leader board. It will show the best striker/defender/engineer of this week. Students are very excited about this new feature.

During this week, we also created another crystal style. As you can see below, the first picture is our original version of crystal. The middle picture is the second version, and the last picture is the third version. During play test, the students said they preferred to the third design.

Then we show the new enemy portal effect, created by Emily. The portal is the jump gate which is the place where the enemies are coming from. The right picture is the first version of the enemy portal. According to the feedback, we recreated another version, as showed in the second picture. There are several improvements. Firstly, it is bigger, brighter and more obvious in the space environment, and it has more movement. Secondly, it has depth, so the players can clearly see multiple waves of enemies are coming from the portal.

After these, we did the real game play test. We tested the original group, which keeps play testing with us. They feel really excited about all the changes. During the first round, they chose to have one engineer, two strikers and one defender. Because the difficulty level is really hard, after the game ended, they had a discussion about the strategy. Then they decided to have two engineers in the next round. That’s what we expected. Fail, talk and try another strategy in the next time.

After play test, Zhen kept working on the level design and the calculation. Feiran worked on the gameplay and Eric worked on the server. According to the feedback we got during play test, Sophia polished the crystal design. Emily finished the basic skill and ultimate skill for striker, as showed below.
