The original project began as conceptual development for a Pittsburgh-based robotic themed
attraction (RoboLand or Roboburgh). Before the conceptualization for that facility can begin,
the core content (Carnegie Mellon University Robotics) must be pitched to potential sponsors.
Our objective for this phase of the project is to sell or pitch the essence and magnitude of
CMU Robotics.

|
|
Our goal ("Phase I") is to produce an entertaining and informative video tour
of the Robotics Institute to intrigue potential sponsors to fund a
Pittsburgh-based robotics museum/attraction/LBE.
In other words, Phase I is the pitch, and Phase II is
the conceptual development for the facility.

Potential Sponsors

Our concept was derived from several brainstorming sessions, which suggested several possible
solutions, in numerous mediums.
Early brainstorms:
Robots gathering at a campfire
Wizard of Oz story (a multi-robot journey)
Interactive DVD-ROM
Iteration led to our current theme:
robotics channel or network: The Robotics Channel
to create a formal layout
listed every TV convention/theme
matched TV conventions to CMU robot "stars"
The television channel theme provided a means to tell several different stories within a single
linear medium: video.
We chose video because:
large inventory of CMU video footage
easy to show or send to potential funders
easy to duplicate
production can be achieved in 7 weeks
Expanded Television Channel Theme
you are watching the channel during "RoboBowl III"
allows us to show more commercials, news breaks
affords us the chance for a commentary
our strategic message
"wouldn't it be great..."
WebPage Design
network webpage that accompanies the content
idea inspired the WB TV series
"Smallville"
provide the illusion that the network "lives" before and after viewing the excerpt
