On April 7th the SV campus was visited by Debra Blanchard, Director of Recruiting for Blue Sky Studios. After taking a tour of the facilities, she sat down for a bit of Q&A with the SV students.
Debra spoke about the culture of Blue Sky Studios. The studio has a different kind of atmosphere than those feature length animation studios on the west coast. Its location keeps it largely independent of the influence of Hollywood and she speculated that this is why Blue Sky’s films do so well in European markets.
Debra also spoke about the company’s production process. She explained that the studio’s small size allows it to be quite malleable. Individuals are freer to move around the company and the studio is able to experiment with different methods of production.
Blue Sky Studios is ramping up production, she said, and preparing to make a number of hires. The studio is moving towards releasing one film every year. Blue Sky’s sixth feature length animated film, Rio, is releasing this week.
We look forward to a growing relationship with Blue Sky Studios.
