On April 28th Shannon Callahan and Ellen Lai visited the SV campus. Shannon is a director of Human Resources & Recruiting and Ellen is a College Talent Manager at Andreessen Horowitz. First, they told us about Andreessen Horowitz and after that we had a Q&A session.
Andreessen Horowitz is a venture capital firm founded by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz. Marc Andreessen is known as co-author of Mosaic, the first widely-used web browser (later renamed Netscape Navigator) and was a co-founder of Netscape Communications Corporation and Opsware. Ben Horowitz was also a co-founder of Opsware. Andreessen Horowitz focuses on investing in start-ups in the technology field, and Shannon and Ellen build their talent network.
During the Q&A session, Shannon talked about the talent network and gave some advice for applying for jobs. Since startup companies can’t find young talent easily, Andreessen Horowitz’s talent pool is really helpful for their portfolio companies, and people who want to work with startups can contact them through this network. She also suggested some tips for interviewing. First, don’t be nervous. Second, don’t give up even if you don’t know the answer – try to solve the given problem with a different approach. Lastly, after an interview, good follow up questions or answers are very helpful.
Thank you for the wonderful visit!
