Thank you to our guest audience members for joining us, asking questions and providing feedback to the students at Half Presentations on Wednesday. This is a big milestone for the teams and a great time to get up to speed on their progress.

In addition to the presentations, the Fluxion Team used the opportunity to do some playtesting with EA employees during lunch.

Spring 2010 Quarter Presentations

Thursday, February 4th, 2010 posted by carl

Congratulations to all five teams for doing a great job on the Quarter Presentations. Our audience was made up primarily of ETC Alums who work at Electronic Arts, along with a few key EA movers and shakers – which in addition to all out students made for a nice size audience for the first round of presentations.

Spring 2010 Project: iLearn

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010 posted by RyanKim

iLearn is a research project on language learning initiated by NHN Corp a leading Internet company in Korea. The objective of this project is to develop a stand-alone iPhone application for English training for Koreans using PocketSphinx which is a speech recognition system developed by CMU.

It’s the best time to get into the market because iPhone was released in Korea only 2 months ago. And iPhone has good mobility so that the users can study English anytime, anywhere. We will make full use of multimodal interfaces of an iPhone to provide users more immersive and intuitive learning experiences and have them more engaged. Also, we will use a speech recognition system to analyze user’s fluency in English.

Team members of iLearn are all Koreans. That is, we have better understanding of differences between English and Korean languages and cultures. Also, we know what Korean users want to learn. For these reasons, we strongly believe that we will make a success of this project.
