Class of 2002

Donnie Antonini
BS, Computer Science, Furman University, 2000

Donnie hails from South Carolina where he got his B.S. in Computer Science from Furman University (which nobody has heard of). During his years of study there, he gained skills. Skills that few mortals in this world possess (or would want) that make computers dance to his every whim. Here at the Entertainment Technology Center, Donnie hopes to combine his "skills" with what he loves: movies, music, games, literature and other distractions that fill the otherwise empty hours of his life. They also help keep his mind off of his obsessions, which include sweet tea, WWF wrestling, and Vanilla Middles.

Kevin AuYoung
BS, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University, 2000
Internship/Summer 2001: Maxis

Kevin graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in May of 2000 with a bachelor's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is constantly fascinated by comic books, video games, Cartoon Network, basketball, and ESPN. Not exactly sure how he is going to change the world, he spends his time trying his best not to smile and thinking how cool it would be to fly like Superman. The Koran is a misspelling of Kevin.

Jeremy Beitler
BA, Studio Art and Communications, Allegheny College, 1996

A visual artist who graduated from Allegheny College In Meadville, PA in 1996 with a Double Major in Studio Art and Communications. He suffers from the "Peter Pan Syndrome" and is frightened by the texture of many foods, monkeys in clothes, and big-headed children. Jeremy is endlessly inspired by the films and art of David Lynch, the music of Mercury Rev, the sight of pretty girls, and the brute strength of Hulk Hogan. Besides doing strange things in the name of art and eating delicious Jell-O, Jeremy spent his time after undergrad trying to be as diverse as humanly possible. He has worked as a movie theater usher, as a camera sales person, performed in numerous imaginary arias, killed stinging insects for an extermination company, cleaned ceilings of restaurants, as a photographer for an ultra-cheesy "glamour" studio, as a P.A. for movies filmed in Pittsburgh, dreaming of being a world-class break dancer, and lastly as a master control technician (a fancy way of saying "the guy who puts all of the programs and commercials live over the air") for 3 television stations. He hopes that his involvement in ETC leads to a future that is a bit more focused and financially viable.

Philo Tan Chua
BS, Computer Science, Ateneo de Manila University, 2000
Internship/Summer 2001: Institute for Creative Technology

Philo earned a BS degree in Computer Science at the Ateneo de Manila University. Immediately afterwards, he went to Carnegie Mellon University to pursue a Master degree in Entertainment Technology. In the short time that he's been here, he's constantly amazed by the output of the program and only hopes that he can only contribute as much (if not more). He counts animation, movies, art and books as among his many passions. In the near future, he hopes that his experiences and knowledge can lead him to a career that would allow him to pursue his many passions. Like others, he just wants to live life in the best way he possibly can.

Bo Daly
BSE, Computer Engineering, University of Pennsylvania, 2000
Internship/Summer 2001: Mircosoft Research

Bo earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in computer engineering and minored in Music and Japanese. In his spare time, Bo enjoys world-travel, playing his guitar and training Aikido. A man's maturity-consists in having found again the seriousness one had as a child, at play.

Timothy J. Eck
BS, Mechanical Engineering, Milwaukee School of Engineering, 2000
Internship/Summer 2001: Universal Studios

Tim earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering and is an Animatronics aficionado. He has created Animatronics while working for Walt Disney Imagineering and the Milwaukee Public Museum. Tim’s core interests and influences include the art of magic and illusion, theme park design and technology, music, and the theatre. Cheese robots and go mountain biking.

Randy Hsiao
BS, Electrical Engineering, and BS, Computer Science, Cornell University, 2000
Internship/Spring 2002: Angel Studios

Randy is an international student from Taiwan. He received both Bachelor degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Cornell University. After working with both hardware and software, Randy realized that programming is where his interest lies. He has a hobby in playing and collecting video games, and he likes to tell people that he has more games than anyone can play in a life time (and he means it!). His passion for video games and programming has led him to select the program offered by the Entertainment Technology Center at Carnegie Mellon to learn and use the tools in developing games. Randy's second biggest hobby is anime, which is Japanese animation. He is determined to learn Japanese so that he won't ever need to read the subtitles again when watching.

Ning "Foxy" Hu
BS, Computer Science and Technology, Tsinghua University, 2000 Research/Summer 2001: Computer Music Group, SCS, Carnegie Mellon

Foxy graduated from Tsinghua University in China in July 2000 with a B.S. in Computer Science and Technology. Currently she is pursuing her Masters degree in Entertainment Technology, focusing on computer music and multimedia. Foxy was always very busy during her undergraduate life, with a lot of things to do: studying, programming, working in the student organization, reading various books, listening to music, playing both piano and saxophone, then of course, eating and sleeping. Though she is a lazy girl indeed, she still plans to keep these habits and get even busier during her graduate life.

Bryan Jacobs
BS, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University, 2000
Internship/Summer 2001: EPFL Virtual Reality and Active Interfaces Group

Bryan is a second year ETC student and a first year PhD student at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne. Currently he is researching haptics for telepresence and VR applications at the Virtual Reality and Active Interfaces lab in Switzerland. He has been discovering new digital tools and his experience with the Carnegie Mellon film club has provided him with new mediums in which to create the worlds that fill his mind. Jason's current plans after college are to pursue a career in game design Once he has enough capital, he'll start his plans for building his inhabitable sculptures.

Ron Weaver
BA, Computer Science and Religion, Emory University, 2000
Internship/Summer 2001: Walt Disney Imagineering

Ron graduated from Emory Univ. in Atlanta, GA, class of 2000. He spent his time there collecting majors in religion (Christian studies) and computer science, a minor in dance, and a rare collection of obscure musical theater CD's. Ron, whom some prefer to call "Albino" for rather obvious reasons, has found his nirvana in the ETC since it can combine his addiction to programming with a dozen years of being in "the biz" (as Aristotle used to call it). His work in entertainment includes dancing for NBA on TNT videos, Superbowl XXV, Disney World's 20th Anniv., scores of musicals, and trying to avoid dancing in drag. Hailing from Tampa, he roots for the Bucs and Magic while waiting for Tampa to get an NBA franchise. Ron currently spends his time improving his programming skills, trying to get on Broadway, and becoming increasingly irritated at referring to myself, I mean himself, in the third person.
