Ready to impact the future of creative industry leadership?

As teaching track faculty in the ETC, your responsibilities will include:

– Co-teach three sections per semester of the ETC Project Course, the core experience of our unique graduate-level curriculum. The Project Course is designed to give students meaningful hands-on experience as well as institutional support in a fast-paced team project, rather like an incubator environment. Many Project Courses are developed along with industry partners such as game development companies, medical researchers, charitable organizations, theme parks, and interface hardware developers. As faculty at the ETC, you will help supervise these small teams of students (typically 4-6 students per team), providing constructive criticism on project progress according to your particular areas of expertise.
– Collaborate with ETC faculty and staff on Executive Education initiatives and workshops related to ETC’s Creative Chaos research.
– Mentor a diverse body of students and assist their professional growth, particularly related to careers as producers, managers and directors.
– Develop and teach one or two elective classes per year, preferably in the subject of how to lead creative teams to do innovative work through the design and development process. Pedagogical consultants from CMU’s Center For Teaching Excellence & Educational Innovation (https://www.cmu.edu/teaching/) are available to help you adapt your domain knowledge into a structured and immersive course.


We are seeking an individual who holds a B.S. or B.A. in a relevant discipline and has proven industry experience of ten or more years with leadership and management experience. An advanced degree is not required for candidates with extensive professional experience in leading creative teams, but having such a degree is a plus. The ETC is a professional degree program and faculty are generally practicing creatives rather than traditional academics.  Our students desire to understand how real-world professional design & development occurs, and highly value faculty who continue to excel in their professional domain. Ideal candidates for this position will be able to show evidence of practices which promote and support varied perspectives and underrepresented and underserved voices in the field.

You should be able to demonstrate:

– A passion for teaching, perhaps expressed through books or online forums, and/or evidence of helping interdisciplinary creative teams do innovative work and grow in knowledge through instruction delivered directly, i.e., an “inspiring leader” willing to share
– The ability to communicate clearly with colleagues and students from a variety of interdisciplinary backgrounds

Additional professional skills are welcome, such as (but not limited to):

– Entrepreneurial experience founding successful companies
– Experience working in a variety of creative industries (i.e. games, animation, XR, mobile, etc.)
– Experience working with international colleagues and companies
– Teaching experience in related areas

We will be evaluating complete submissions from September 01, 2022 to November 01, 2022, or until a hire is made. The committee will consider applicants during Fall 2022, with an expected start date for the Spring 2023 semester which begins in mid-January.  Application documents must be in PDF format and include:

The ETC program is a hands-on, team-based curriculum with a significant emphasis on in-person collaboration, and creating multiple social and professional opportunities for students, both in and outside the classroom.  The listed position is specifically for on-site full-time employment at our Pittsburgh campus. Carnegie Mellon will provide the successful candidate with financial assistance for their relocation to Pittsburgh, PA. International candidates receive guidance from CMU’s Office of International Education.
