ETC Animation Studio

Projects from the Spring 2006 semester:

ETC DVD Ambassador
Lead:
Brian Evans

An AfterEffects collage of images from other ETC projects, the Ambassador is meant to serve as an introduction to a promotional ETC DVD.

Panda3D Motion Blur Demo
Lead:
John DeRiggi

A brief jumping animation of a lanky monster, this demo was created to highlight the new series of motion blur shaders created for the Panda3D engine.

Panda3D Firefly Demo
Lead:
Brian Hagan

A complex forest environment modeled for a new lighting algorithm developed for the Panda3D engine.

Animateering - Mr. Rogers Neighborhood
Lead:
Magnolia Caswell-Mackey

Having previously created the Animateering virtual puppet station for the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, the ETC was once again approached to incorporate several new puppets from the Mr. Rogers Neighborhood collection into the existing software.

World's Fair for Kids: Jam-o-Drum Game
Lead:
John DeRiggi

Jam-o-Drum is a four-person game platform developed at the ETC, and the team from World's Fair approached us with a request for musical instruments for the music-matching game they are creating.

In addition to the instruments, we also helped with game background elements:

World's Fair for Kids: Quasi Promo
Lead:
John DeRiggi

The World's Fair team has also asked us to animate a promotional piece where Quasi, the robot poster child of the ETC, does an excited introduction of the program.

Give Kids the World: Gold Star Project
Lead:
Shaun Budhram

We have been subcontracted by the team working with the Give Kids the World Village to create prerendered animations of the fairy character interacting with the children via three screens embedded into the walls. We have produced the animation and special effects for the following shots:

Microcontent
Lead:
Brian Evans

Microcontent has asked us to do special effects for a horror spoof microsode involving a man-eating Glob. These microsodes are being made for the iPod screen, allowing quick prototyping and development cycles.

Project ER
Lead:
John DeRiggi

Project ER is creating an interactive booth for children waiting at the hospital emergency room. Part of the booth consists of a coloring book which, when colored in, turns into a short 3D clip based on that image. We have created the following clips for their project:

ETC-mtvU GDC Booth
Lead:
Magnolia Caswell-Mackey

This year at the Game Developers Conference, the ETC hosted its own booth, in conjunction with the MTV-U game initiative. We were asked to do an abstract animation of an ETC logo that would be played in the background among footage of other projects.

Skyrates
Lead:
Kate Bankson

Skyrates is a four-person game project at the ETC focusing on exploring keyhole gameplay through a variety of media including Flash, AIM, and SMS. We developed several character concept sketches for them during an earlier phase of development.

Improv II
Lead:
Brian Hagan

The Improv II team is using an improvisational acting exercise to create an animation paradigm for generating dynamic animations in video games. Our involvement was to create dozens of short animation clips that would be picked and blended together by the engine.

Vision Quest
Lead:
Brian Evans

The Vision Quest team is working with researchers to develop a Flash game that can test children for early symptoms of amblyopia. We iterated and designed a number of characters and backgrounds for their game.

The Gnome Project

An animated short we are developing internally to explore new techniques in rigging, animation, and materials.

Juggles

An independent animated short developed by Shaun Budhram about a boy learning how to juggle.
