Week 5

Our week began with a lot of technical research and quarter feedback discussion. After developing two recording prototypes – Mobile and Web page, we began to research on 2D and 3D constraints and JavaScript frameworks. After a few days of research, we decided to move forward with 2D art in PixiJS because of its community forum and flexibility. We also had a team meeting on Monday to express and discuss our design concerns on using Twitch.

We did a feedback discussion activity recommended by our client to know which feedback were useful and need to be discussed more. This helped us to filter out less helpful feedback and integrate a few suggestions into our design.

By Tuesday we had started working towards our goal of House Symphony game and divided our tasks into Grid and Occlusion, Networking and Mobile application for recording and uploading sound. We verified our plans with our client on Wednesday and got a lot of suggestion from Jessica on how to improve our design.

As the week went on, we met with Anthony Daniels who is a visiting faculty in ETC and with Steve Spohn, a Twitch streamer and COO of AbleGamers. We went through our design plans and tried to understand more about Twitch. It was clear to us that Twitch could be a valuable asset if used properly. We learned the main motivation for streamers to play on Twitch was to attract more viewers and to earn more money. Streamers keep looking for new ways to engage their viewers and enhance the relationship among them through the games they play. It was a potential motivation for the streamers to play our experience.

The talk with Steve turned out to be more helpful as we got a better idea of Twitch and our design. We knew we had to tweak our design plan to accommodate streamers likes and suggestions. But, we were stuck and unclear on how to steer our current design into a better one for Twitch streamers and viewers. Later, meeting with subject experts from Bosch and Philips added to our worry because we knew that we had spent a long time in design phase and had to move on to prototyping and get playtests done fast if we wanted to be successful.

The week wrapped up with a lot of discussion around design. We also finished our branding including our poster, logo and half sheet. Jingya, our UI/UX designer updated our poster look to be in theme with our project.
