Week 2

This week we found time for a team dinner together! It was a good time to celebrate some little milestones we hit this week.

  • We got together and explored each big question in the Transformational Framework – a powerful feat
  • We attended a playtesting workshop from Mike Christel and John Dessler
  • Some of us got to attend the Transformational Framework workshop from Sabrina Culyba.
  • A portion of us got an extra walk-through of the framework from Dave
  • We were able to meet with a future subject-matter expert and get some great advise.

This week we identified through our brainstorms the specific player transformations we might like to see. We’ve also identified many barriers that have kept players from changing before now. Looking at these two areas really highlighted for use the need to narrow down our audience. Currently our audience is college aged individuals who are near-future members of the game industry who don’t necessarily know the best methods of promoting good workplace culture. The problem is, we have targeted people with vastly different beginning states, and that affects the path that we take to shape their change.

We identified 3 main types of target audience member we have:

  • Those that are a part of underrepresented communities, aware of it, and don’t feel empowered to speak up for change.
  • Those that do not know or do not believe these issues exist.
  • Those that would help diversify the game industry and would be well suited to it, but are not planning on joining due to the issues with workplace culture

Overall, we feel these are all empowering and worthwhile avenues to pursue. But we also know our resources are not unlimited – we have 6 students, SMEs, 14 weeks, and only about 7 of those may end up being used for production. So we are making personas of the ideal player we’d like to change, to narrow down our target audience. We will see how this turns out next week.
