Week 5

This week we:

  • Each received process grades: This is where each team member sits down with both Faculty Advisors to discuss their goals, progress, teamwork skills, and concerns.
  • Participated in a practice workshop: Jack volunteered to lead the team in a workshop discussing the game “Papers Please”. This produced fruitful discussion around getting players to empathize with people they might not normally empathize. It also gave the team a better idea of what a workshop does and how it may look for our project. It also shed light on areas we can help each other when giving workshops in the future.
  • Completed the Production materials to be printed for our project: It was a challenge to complete the poster and halfsheets for our project so early on. We didn’t have a topic picked for the first 2 and a half weeks, then we settled on a topic, then we changed that topic entirely, a week prior to the printing deadline. This put enormous pressure on the team to pivot art directions in order to accommodate our new direction. It is a satisfying end to a busy week though!
  • Our lead artist finished our individual team photo edits earlier this week. Those should be added to the website this week. We also took team photos but those will need some time to be processed.
  • We made a lot more progress on our proposal: We have been talking through issues in the problem space of “Making the game industry better”, but we needed to sit down and compile those ideas. I have been working on a document to encompass them all. We are also discussing making a more visual form of this to assist with an easier elevator pitch.
  • We finally have game ideas! The proposal progress and working through the framework has helped us come up with 3 game ideas we would like to propose this upcoming week so the Engineering team can make a playable prototype.

The transformational framework has been a long process for us. A big part of that has been our unfamiliarity with the process, but regardless, we are making meaningful progress.
