Week 7

Here are some more of the pieces Brendan made sample art mock-ups of for our playtest.

The wireframe from design for our programmers to begin making the digital prototype – BONUS = we can make a physical prototype to test out the interface design while they’re doing that!

Our tech team isn’t sure which will be best, a browser based application or a downloadable application. We’re also not yet sure how necessary mobile is versus just desktop.

Since we already have the wireframe and mock-ups, the options of engines have been narrowed down to Cocos and Unity3D. But we still need more research and tests to make the final decision.

We ran the playtest late this week and it went really great! We got great info from it.

  • Interactions were in line with what we wanted, a lot of the feedback to change involved the “content” of what we’re teaching.
  • We had most of the pieces we needed.
  • We need to refine our prototyping skill.
  • We need to do playtesting specific to UI alongside the gameplay testing, separate em.
  • We may not need to break out the UI this granularity in the next gameplay test

In order to determine the platform choice, we separately work on Cocos and Unity3D to create functional prototypes in order to test whether the pros and cons fits our workshop scope. Since the robust networking system seems to be our primary request in the workshop structure, we looked into tech demos of different cloud service platforms like Photon, AWS and Azure and consider if they are compatible and re-evolvable enough for further development.
