9. Halves

We just completed halves! We had a great time. We spent the first hour or so doing each of our halves presentations and then spent a few hours demoing our products with the crowd. We had a nice list of guests who attended, some of whom were from outside EA too.

We had some minor issues with our demo, owing to a new space that we hadn’t tested the Tango in earlier, a fairly small space for the number of people we had, and a small bug in the code that somehow crept into our build for halves. Despite all of that, the demoes did go pretty well! As always, everyone was excited by our progress and we got great feedback to think about for our next playtest.
After halves, we got together and discussed how we were going to head into the second leg of our semester. It has become clear through our numerous playtests that certain elements in our project aren’t working as well as we hoped. For example, most people have to be told what to do in the game, and some people still have difficulty understanding and using the prop. So definitely, these design and story elements are going to be the focus for this half. We sat down and came up with a storyboard that explained the entire game loop that would be in our final game. This gave us more clarity on what we had left to do and how we would go about doing it.

On Friday, we had out field trip to Monteray Bay Aquarium! We spent the morning doing a special backstage tour and then spent some time visiting all the exhibits. It was an amazing experience. The deep sea ecosystems truly are like alien worlds. We saw everything from jellyfish to sharks and octopi!
