Week 3

Week 3

In week 3, our team is wrapping up research. We are now in the ideation page, and we are preparing for quarter and moving towards prototype phase.

Research Report

  • Problem Define
  • Interview

We interview 5 nurses and got useful information from them.

  • Insights

In out research, we want to find the pain point of nurses. All the nurses know how important hand hygiene is and they also know hand hygiene protocols really well. However, here are the reasons why they are not following the hand hygiene protocols when they should have to:

  1. Forgetful & disturbed.
    • Nurses are human. They forget about things. Sometimes they are not consciously aware of they are neglecting hand hygiene protocols.
  2. Ambiguous situations & Prioritizing
    • They are some ambiguous situations where nurses are not put hand hygiene in their top priority. For example, if there is a emergent call from patient, the nurses may need to start compression immediately, and thus leaves little time and little attention for hand hygiene.
  3. Invisibility & “clan and safe”
    • Virus, bacteria, and germs are invisible. If we could see how many virus we have on hands, I believe every nurse would wash their hands they knew it is not clean. Because of the invisibility, nurses have the assumption that their hands are clean and it is safe to interact with patients. It is because the virus are invisible, therefore it is the best to practice hand hygiene protocols strictly.
  4. Access barrier
    • For example, there are no hand rub in the water sink. Sometimes the nurses hands are full.
  • Moving Towards Design

Based on our research results, here are some design mechanics we can use in our project to tackle down the nurse’s pain point. First, we can show them the consequence of neglecting hand hygiene protocols. Second, we can visualize virus and germs, and telling them it is because the virus are invisible, so it is the best to follow hand hygiene rules strictly.

Ideation

After communicating with client. We are narrowing down our game ideas to two.

#1 Virus Perspective

The current training of hand hygiene for nurse are serious and adequate as for information. What we can do more is to bring new perspective.

In this idea, the main character will be virus. The virus needs to find chances (the time or situation nurses and patience don’t wash hand or don’t wear mask) to spread and infect people.

#2 Hand Perspective

Our second idea is features in hand perspective. We will zoom in to the hands.

In this direction, we want to target emotional and effective storytelling. For example, when nurses go back to home, they pat their dogs and hold their babies. Those normal interaction are easily to spread virus to their family if they do not neglecting hand hygiene.
