Lazer Mouse

Week 3

Art!

Sahana started to design and paint our poster and half-sheet.

Regis created our website and we will be posting our progress there (here)!

Research!

We completed our laser cutter research and prepared a spreadsheet to present them to our client.

Sangyun has started researching about the previous studies in this area. He will be leading our research paper about this project.

Atulit has made researches about our perfect packing so as to minimize waste area. He has been working on bounding box algorithms and especially focussing on Principal Component Analysis and Independent Component Analysis so that the components can be arranged in minimum possible space while cutting.

Brainstorming!

We continued brainstorming this week and came up with several more ideas. We went over everything we talked so far and tried to come up with 3 solid ideas. We named them as “TocaBoca Style”, “Unions” and “Spore-like Splines”. (We put the pictures and I think more explanation will be good)

Meeting with the Client!

We met with Rebecca and Christian at MAKESHOP on Wednesday. We discussed about our urgent need; ordering the laser cutter. We presented the brands and models that we examined and even though it is still pending for confirmation, we decided on a brand’s model.

We then discussed about our observations in MAKESHOP and in the other parts of the museum. Christian suggested us to observe the amount of time spent in different places in MAKESHOP/museum.

We presented our 3 ideas and got really good reactions. Rebecca and Christian liked our “Spore-like Splines” idea the best but also complemented to other ideas too.

Next Week!

  • We are leaning towards an iPad application, so research about iPad development!
  • We will be buying the laser cutter.

  • Our website will be finalized.
