Week 8 – Hide and Seek

This week we keep working on the Hide and Seek prototype.

We implemented a very cool teleport feature in our project. By looking at the portal object and click the cardboard button to choose it, guest can switch their point of view to a position where the portal is. There is a fade-in and fade out effect when change point of view to make player more comfortable.

We also added a lot details to our project. There are more feedback when player interacts with the virtual objects:

  • The scan frame would change size when the player looks around.
  • There would be click sound after pressing the cardboard button.
  • If the player finish one task, the frame will turn to green color.
  • If the player fail one task, the frame will turn to red color.
  • There will be blue outline shader around an object to indicate the object is being looked at.
  • A timer is implanted to record the time spent on each task.
  • A simple room environment is set up.

Another exiting thing is that we finally did our first playtest. Five guests played through our experience and gave us a lot of useful feedback. Based on their feedback, we would do some modification, such as:

  • Add task text effect to highlight the task text.
  • Improve the teleport experience to make naïve players less confused about this function.
  • Add more tasks to the experience to improve the playability of this experience.
  • Modify the color and size of the frame.
  • Strengthen the difference between right and wrong feedback.
  • Add a general tutorial to it.

Next Monday, we will have our half presentation. Hope we can finish these tasks by then and good luck to the team!
