6 – Data Collection

Newsletter-6-Picture-1

After two weeks of prototyping and two more of production, the time has come to show our product to real consumers. Thisu week, PewPewPew focuses our priorities on iterating on our demo so that we would be able to get some actual data from non-expert users. That being said, due to where we are location, it has been harder to get play testers that fall within our target audience.

Fortunately, many people have come to our assistance in finding play testers. At the end of our first sprint, we scheduled a play test day, where our team moved from place to place and showed our game to as many people who were willing to test our game and give us honest feedback.

We spent some time with Argonauts, a rapid prototyping team at Electronic Arts who gave us a better understanding of what components of a game should be developed in the prototype, and how to quickly test if our game mechanics would be successful. They also played our game demo and gave us great feedback and directions on how we could improve on it.

Also, with a lot of help from our CMU administrator Rhea Flores, we were able to get some children to play our demo! As this play test session is the first time our demo has been played by our target audience, we were able to get a lot of unexpected and valuable data, which will surely help the development of Ninja Academy.

Seeing these children enjoy our game has reinvigorated the team’s morale and drive to develop a higher quality product. Next week, team PewPewPew will digest and analyze all of the data we have collected and start iterating on our game. Stay tuned for more!
