7 – All In

This week PewPewPew has started on our second sprint cycle. This sprint, we want to develop the entirety of our game environment and iterate on usability issues which our play testers faced at the end of sprint one. We are in a rush to develop our in game environment because we believe that we will need to include a customization feature to ensure our game is replayable, which will cost our artist a significant amount of time to draw. Hence, if our artists can finish enough the game environment before halves, we will be more confident about including this feature; otherwise, we will need to find a way to design our game viable without customization.

To keep up with this schedule our art team has already developed a large number of assets for the fourth level of our game environment. We chose to build our levels in a non-linear way because the fourth level includes a boss fight and that would be the hardest and most important level.  Here is some of the art that they have finished!

Our tech department is fine tuning the input mechanics that our game runs on, while play testers had little problems completing our game, our input mechanic was hard to understand and did not run intuitively. We are also making a second attempt at using the gyroscope as our input mechanic, while it provides the best user experience so far, we have yet to find a way to standardize gyroscope input across mobile devices. We will continue to find solutions to this problem this sprint.

Finally, our designers are ready to show off a few different types of enemies that will be in the game, by the end of this sprint we will be including a multitude of different enemies which will surely challenge a player’s ability and keep them engaged in the game.

Since our call for play testers during our Quarters presentation, we have had many ETC Alumni’s step up and source for play testers for our team. Thank you all for your help! We now have a few more avenues to do our play testing and we will play test once more at the end of this sprint.
