Week 6 Newsletter (2/16 – 2/20)

Overview

This week the team worked on getting their new game design idea prototype ready for the all-in client meeting on next Monday. Two teams (ThunderEgg and Legato) developed horizontally 2 different prototypes that was chosen by the designers.

Production

Working together with the Legato team, producers created channels on Slack to be able to use it more efficiently and increase the communication across teams. The week was scheduled to make 4 prototypes, 2 on each side. However, on Wednesday the team decided that they want to improve the first 2 prototypes to define them better instead of creating 2 more.

Design

Jelly Pirate in Space

Following the last weeks decisions Christian and Jimin documented 2 different prototype ideas.

Jelly Space Pirates: 2-4 players work together to guide their ship to the end of the level while blasting jelly at obstacles and enemies to keep their ship safe.

Jelly Colony: Save jellies trapped in ice cubes by smashing them build igloos with jellies acquired from smashing ice cubes expand jelly colonies by building igloos.

Dynamic Defender

Designers from Legato team also documented 2.

Dynamic Defenders: 2-4 players must protect designated VIP from incoming projectiles for as long as they can.

Programmers worked all week determined the add as many features as possible to the prototype. Goksu worked on the powerup system, pirate space ship and the player manager, while Julia was handling the jelly plugin and the collisions. Michael moved the server to his Amazon Web Server to prevent complications of using the same server with the Legato team in Pittsburgh. He also started working on the HTML5, creating the crafting system we had planned for our jello bullets. Christian also helped programmers during the week, creating the enemy movements, score texts and bomb planet interactions.

Next Steps

The team spent this week improving their communication and resolving any conflict. They decided to show 2 different prototypes to OCCO in the joined meeting on Monday. moving forward, after the feedback they get from the client and an inner discussion, they plan to choose one prototype and develop it further.
