Week 8 and 9

Forgive the doubling up of posts…these past two weeks have been kind of hectic. As we prepare for the halfway point which is Halves, we want to try and get as much as we can into our experience. Now that we have a solid direction the whole team was excited about, we need to work quickly to put something together to show for Halves. We got to work putting together a demo that would showcase our Twitch interactions with the viewers in the chat and our main mechanics: moving the character using a thumb stick, getting different weapons from the chest, monster summoning.  We also decided to include a huge map which is a dungeon where the character fights with the enemy robots using special abilities and the weapon that the viewers have voted on. On the art side we iterated on more assets and have more enemies/bosses in the game so that we can show off the game we have made in Halves.

For this week we managed to have a rough prototype, with all our planned features in development. It still is a fairly simple demo, with just 2 Twitch interactions designed to engage the viewer as well as the player. For the next week we have Spring Break, so no classes for the entire week and then Game Developers Conference in Week 10. We plan to come for at least 3 days next week to get some more work done. We are also planning a playtest to test certain Twitch interactions that would be helpful in proving the decisions that we made. We are also hoping to meet the head of corporate strategy on 24th March to get an idea what Verizon as an organisation wants out of this project.

Here is a short video we made for our client:
