Week 5 Newsletter

9/22 – 9/26

What We Did:

Team Quarter 1

This week we had our program’s Quarter’s Presentation where we presented our research, prototypes and plan to an audience of mostly graduated ETC students and some EA employers. They asked some very interesting questions, such as what was possible with the device and how we planned to tackle a number of the challenges.

Team Quarter 2

It was very interesting to hear everyone’s ideas about what the companion
could be doing as there is a near endless list of use cases.

Challenges:

As pointed out by a few of the industry guests at the event, our project does have the most technical risk
out of all the ETC-SV projects. There are a lot of hard questions that we need to solve in order to get this
application running at even a functional basis. That being said, we are very excited to be developing
on this technology as we have the pioneer spirit!

Our Plan For Next Week:

We plan to work on fixing the gyroscope calibration so that the character can remain in place as the user turns his head. We also plan to integrate our prototypes a bit more into the same Unity build. Additionally, we want to start integrating in user input, such as voice or gesture and have that be recognized by our program. We will explore possible character options and hope to have a paper playtest conducted by the end of the week to determine the best character we can make in the time for this project.
