Week 12 Newsletter

11/10 – 11/14

What We Did:

This week, we really kept our heads focused on the work we wanted to get done before next week, which is our big showcase week filled with events.

From a programming standpoint we solved lots of issues that we had with navigational component, gps usage, fail-safes for gps readings, and we also synched up almost all of the 18 animations that our artist has made with events in the state machine script.

We also added in a lot of code for behaviors that are behind the scenes. For example, we have dynamic timeouts for how long the robot should spend listening for a response based on the anticipated response length from a question. This really enhances the user’s experience and is a more subtle aspect of the experience.

We continue to explore possible directions for our research paper, and after a lengthy conversation, we finally came down with a good topic to focus on.

All in all, this week we just really focused on getting all the components working together nicely in the build in time for the big showcases next week.

Challenges:

Time is always a challenge. With more time, we could add even more awesome components to the project. With our limited remaining time, we really had to keep our heads down and focus on making the core experience really tight and polished.

Plan For Next Week:

Next week we plan to pivot our attention towards making the build work really well indoors since that is where a majority of the showcases will occur. We will then spend the rest of our time polishing the experience before the big showcases to both press outlets as well as employees at Electronic Arts.
