Michael was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He then moved to Taiwan, where his family still lives and works. Michael was educated in Taiwan until sophomore year of high school before moving back to the United States in 1999. He went to Citrus Heights to complete high school, located in the Sacramento region. During high school, Michael had some thoughts about studying something related to computers, and he had a hard time deciding whether he should go with computer science or computer art. After high school, he decided to attend the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
Michael started as a student in the animation department, and went through all the drawing classes and animation lectures until 2004. In the same year, he also interned at I-View, a television commercial post-production house in Taiwan during the summer. There, he started to focus on the visual effects they did for commercials and he switched to studying visual effects. Michael is now more focused in lighting, compositing, rendering and particle/fluids simulation as he felt these elements would add more dramatic feeling to the medium of his works. He also realized there are more technical skills he will need to learn to be part of this industry. He also studied at the San Francisco City College in UNIX and Python scripting courses.
Until 2010, Michael was pleased to be part of the crews who worked on Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer
Current Project: Music in Motion
