Week 13

Softs

With the Soft Opening closing in, the team honed into some of the tasks that we decided is the most important. The soft opening will consist of multiple groups of faculty and guests to come in and try the game by themselves.

We did a recap on our final goal — allow players to complete some rounds of the game without outside help. To achieve this, we put limited time and full effort into the following tasks:

Stuff we did

  • Tutorial
    Original tutorial storyboard

    Tutorial design document
    Final tutorial

The tutorial consists of 6 parts — where the players will be directed step by step to understand. We compiled design storyboards into a detailed document that specify what happens at every step. This helped greatly as we move closer to the goal.

  • Healing item
We had an argument regarding whether to keep implementing items in the design, as it will cost time and add to the cost of understanding the game in a short time. We went over the four items in the paper design and decided that the healing item is the one that will serve the game the best. It is useful near the endgame.
  • Splash Screen
    Splash screen

Also, we were able to put in a splash screen as a strong start to the game.

Going forward

We believe that we are in a good position for soft opening. After playtesting with peers that are deemed our target audience, they seem were able to get a hold of the game after the tutorial, and without others holding hands telling them how to play.
