Week 5

This week was quarters and our team had our walkarounds on Monday. Faculty in ETC came to our project room for 15minutes and gave us feedback on our current prototype and the direction that we are heading. There were a lot of good feedback which addresses our struggles. Next week, we will have our quarter sitdown and a faculty member will be visiting our room to actually try our most current prototype.

Story survey

This week we sent out a survey to see people’s opinions on each story and to use it to narrow down our character. To find out about people’s thoughts, these were the questions that we asked on the survey.

  • The character’s story affected me emotionally
  • I felt like I could put myself in the shoes of the character
  • What factors, if any, made you feel sympathy for the character?
  • What would you like to see happen next for the character?

There was no clear, meaningful result we found from the playtest. However, we believe this was due to the group of people who participated in the survey. We plan to distribute this survey and get answers from a more diverse group of people.

Digital playtest

For Friday, we did a digital playtest and focused on honing down on interaction with each object.

For the prototype, we had four objects.

  1. Polaroid camera – photo ejects when user clicks on it
  2. Planner – page flips.
  3. Wand – Star particles fall from the sound accompanied by sound.
  4. The notebook was close to the players so they chose it first.

From the previous playtest, we realized some of the interactions were not obvious or interesting. So we tried to choose an object with interesting interaction and at the same time, a personal meaning. Also, we tried to make the interaction more obvious but delightful.

After the playtest, many playtesters thought the interactions were intuitive and interesting. Many people liked the wand especially because of the particle effect and how it supported the story. However, the card animation that played after users interacted with the object seemed to be bit distracting.

Next playtest

These are the things we will be doing for the next playtest.

  1. An object that leads you to the doctor – envelope
  2. Design next phase of the experience(Doctor scene)
    1. Change scene to hospital room
    2. You hear memory about the doctor
    3. The doctor has his own voice.
    4. You go back to your room.
