Several aspects of Doc's personality and behavior were discussed with the IAI team, as the way Doc moved his hands and enunciated his words were issues that had not been addressed before.
Development of Content
Due to the severe time constraints on the project, and also due to Doc's inability to remain focused (one of his key personality traits), Doc's function on the interface was to provide an entertaining hook to the project, rather than simply give out information. After the animation, the viewer could learn the straight facts about the project by following the link under Doc's picture, or they could continue to explore the 3D lab until something else caught their attention.
Content about the individual projects was inspired by discussions with members of the project, and then was improvised upon during recording sessions with Mike Rankin, the IAI team, and Doc's voice actor, Brian Shoaf. All content was approved by a member of the team the content was referring to before being used in the virtual tour.
