About

We are Front Seat. We are a group of graduate students at the Entertainment Technology Center at Carnegie Mellon University developing an experience for virtual reality chairs in collaboration with Sky Limit Entertainment.

But you probably already know that.

Over the course of the 2019 fall semester, we will be responsible for designing and delivering a unique experience for an emerging technological platform called the SoReal omnidirectional virtual reality chair. In use at the SoReal Virtual Reality Theme Park in Beijing, these chairs are more than your average seat. They tilt nearly thirty degrees forward, backward, left and right; they move up and down close to a foot in each direction; they can make continuous, full spins.

With such cool technology at our disposal, the bar is high for what this experience can accomplish. Focusing on three major metrics – our client’s goals (target audiences, demographics, themes, etc.), playtesting, and interactivity (especially engagement) – we will spend different parts of the semester exploring what the chair does well, designing and testing experiences through prototypes, and finally polishing one developed concept.

While parts of our project are being kept under wraps on a need to know basis, there is still plenty we can and will talk about to whoever is willing to listen! For the most up-to-date information on what is going on with the team with over twenty chairs in their project rooms, please check out our blog!
