Week 10 (Oct.31 ~ Nov.6): New Game Design

This week, there are some important events going on. We had a meeting with an executive of a sport-company. This person has been entertaining audience during breaks of baseball games for long time. He is the person that understand the audience, as well as the industry. During the meeting, he told us about his experience of constantly thinking about new contents, and he is proud of the fact that he was able to come up with new stuff for every single game. Also, about our assumptions about the audience, he said that the college football game we went to (Pitt vs GT) is not very representative, even in college football. He said in a NFL game there will not be so many children, and people are much more intense.

This meeting is very inspiring for us. Based on what he told us about the audience, we decided to add more contents that facing older audience.

The new game design is about predicting the next move by both teams on the field. Since people like to do that all the time, and they’ll find the moment that they can “beat the coach”– what the users predicted turned out to be better than what the coach chose to do. Also this type of game naturally enhances social interaction among audience. Of course we kept the real-world reward part. Users are still able to get juicy coupons if they can predict correctly!
