Blog – Week 2

This week, Team FITYMI began branching off to complete separate tasks for our production. We also managed to narrow down our pre-production ideas to two!

Our week mainly consisted of research, tests and new ideas. Wenyu created some fantastic concept art to help our team establish the overall look and feel of the transition from live-action into the painting.

Emily began workshopping the technical aspects of how to create and implement the post-it note, paint brush style, based on some early renders provided by Para Productions, our predecessors.

Towards the end of the week, Emily and Wenyu combined forces and began testing how they could make this style come true in 3D.

Luo spent several days quickly getting a grasp on MotionBuilder and motion capture cleanup. Using data provided by the motion capture lab on Carnegie Mellon’s main campus, she ran technical tests and ended up with a moving, rigged character in Maya.

Catherine began drafting up concepts for our FITYMI logo and poster! Just a few are included below:

And finally, Brian continued workshopping ideas for our pre-production ideas. After narrowing down the five from last week with our mentor, John, only The Sea of Stories and The Feral Other remain. We hope to choose our favorite next week and move forward with a script and concept pieces.

Also, Brian had several meetings with the team and faculty to brainstorm changes to the current Lovers Meet script. With help from John, Ralph and Chris, we believe we have some solid ideas on how to make some basic changes which will make our vision more clear, the story more unified and ultimately more tailored to our skillset.

There is much in store for next week as we will nail down a schedule for the entirety of the semester, lock in a pre-production idea and begin chipping away at production for Lovers Meet!
