An end to end solution to quickly and effectively visualize story

Week 2 – Preproduction for Preproduction

This week was a big one!

PROJECT GOAL

We narrowed down our project definition to a tangible goal after a lot of team meetings and a couple with our advisors. The aim, for now, is to work on setting up the body tracking tech and start developing a VR camera system that allows the director and previz artists to be able to move around a camera in 3D space as they would in real life. While this tech pipeline is setup, the rest of us are working on setting up the actual shot layout based on the script Butch Cassidy’s first scene. Our goal is to visualize the scene without considering the original movie (none of us have seen it – yet!) and see what conclusions we can draw.

RESEARCH AND INTERVIEW

We also got the opportunity to talk to a filmmaker and 2 faculty members and got their take on our project along with some valuable feedback about our project and the things we should focus on. Those meetings helped us identify which parts of the process and end product we need to focus on and which parts would be nice to have but aren’t really necessary.

INDIVIDUAL WORK

In terms of individual work – Varun worked on exporting animation that was captured using his tool for body motion capture. Kevin started researching and setting up his VR camera tool. Shera designed the team logo and poster, made a persona and worked on a composition box with Varun and Arnav. She also worked with Varun and Kevin to storyboard their design process and potential use cases. Angela setup the website, started research on camera setups in Unity. Angela and Arnav worked on breaking down the script and planning the layout for the first scene of Butch Cassidy’s script. Arnav setup the cameras and movement for the inception test scene and started on some of the assets for the initial shot.
