Newsletter 4: February 6th
Overview:
This week the team worked on completing a playable protoype for quarters and will polish what we have over the weekend for our ¼ walkaround on Monday.
We also completed our Poster, Logo and Halfsheets, with the Team description which over the weekend will go up on our website. We also began fleshing out ideas for our mini-game.
Lasty we were able to have our third client meeting and set-up a weekly meeting time with our client (Every Monday at 11am).
Prototype:
As mentioned we were able to complete a working protype of two functionalities. One of them is a simple mini-game the other our interactive map. While the map still needs polish below is the link to the necessary code for running the mini-game on the unity web-plugin.

In order to play it please download both the files into the same folder and run it via a web browser. It looks something like this:

The following are our Poster:
Logo:
and Half Sheets:
which contains our description:
Team Gaia aims to create an educational game that teaches young kids about the lush rainforests of our planet. We are working together with Montainview Elementary School to give students an experience that will teach them about the wondrous ecosystems and wildlife that thrive, hidden away under the cover of dense trees and other plant life. Our game will be developed on tablets that will help make the experience more interactive and tangible to the students, driving the immersion.
Our goal is to give the students a feeling of discovery and to impart to them a sense of what this unique habitat is. We also want this game to not just educate the players about the rainforests but to also fill them with a thirst for more knowledge and a drive to explore more about this splendorous biome.
(again I will be putting it up on the website over the weekend)
Overall Project Concept:
This is how we currently envision our project (if not clear – image can be clicked on for clearer resolution):
For example through one of our games we want to teach the children about the micro-ecosystems that exist in the rainforest. The idea is linked below

Another minigame is the idea of teaching the students about Mutualism (similar to symbiosis). The idea is linked below

We are working though these mini-games and moving forward will begin to protoype these out as well.
Moving Forward:
During next week we hope to use the quarters walkthrough to learn what other people think of the direction our team is taking with this project. We also would like to use it as a litmus test to see how the outside opinion is tending. Also we are looking for common questions so that we know where we are lacking and we can work to provide an answer to these questions.
