Week 13 – Curiosity

This week was focused on preparing the third and final game, Curiosity.

The goal of the game is to reward players for exploration and experimentation.  After talking with our client, it seems that material rewards (like gems, treasures, etc) doesn’t help the cause of curiosity.

The background story of the game is that a princess from the ocean kingdom has been sent to locate and bring back the different monsters who fled.

The core mechanics are:

  • Exploration – the princess has a “magical horn” that practices as a radar. She can explore the seas but only when she uses it she discovers the monsters.
  • Experimentation – the player can “combine” the different monsters and receive various different results of behavior and a reward in the shape of getting more information about the overall story.
  • Epiphany – if the player can combine all the information they “earned” and learn what is the background story.
