This is the first week after half presentation. And we got a lot of useful feedback both from audiences and faculty. As a result, we spent half of the week to re-think about our project and we are glad that we did that.
One serious problem from the half presentation is that users didn’t feel the strong connection between the music the platform generates and the object on the screen. After discussing with users , we realized that some factors are really important such as our mesh analysis algorithm is not accurate enough, we did too much pitch adjustment for our music to make sounds harmonious. However, this part is the most important part, users need this strong connection to close their loop. They spent time scanning the object and modifying the object, we need to present them an accurate and pleasant music to listen.
Also, we discussed some other ideas like pivoting our music style from classic to eletronic style. However, after some research, we insist that our project should provide music that is appealing to listen. So we keep pushing the boundary producing harmonious music.
After spending three days to absorbing feedback, we keep moving on. Though there are some small bugs, we improved our mesh analysis algorithm a lot. Also, we removed our shifting mechanism for music so that we restore the music to fit exactly to the shape of the object.
We are experiencing more solutions to stay true to music but at the same time it is appealing to users. Next week we will keep working on the improved mesh analysis algorithm.
What’s more, we re-ordered our process for our web platform. Now when users upload the model, they will be direct to playing page, and from that page, they can click the edit button to enter editing mode. The reason we did that is that a lot of users said that they just want to use our web platform to listen to the music behind objects. However, the previous process implies that they need to modify before enjoying the music.
In this demo, we improved our mesh analysis algorithm, redesigned our process, and improved our music generating algorithm.
Challenges
Though we improved our mesh analysis, there are some small bugs that will affect some music details. We need to put some efforts to debug.
Music challenge is huge since we remove our automatic shifting for harmonious music, we need to design another way to generate music instead of noise. We are happy with the current music we generated, however, we believe we can do better.
Visual part is a big challenge and we will add bit by bit based on user feedback from now on. Also, editing part is very tricky and we need to have a lot of visual indicator to help user modify the model, which takes time to design and implement.

Conduct a user testing for project to determine whether we achieve the goal that music have strong connection with the object.
