Week 2

Overview of the Week

This week’s keyword – brainstorming!

Around our project goal – using 3D scanning and RAM technology to explore new areas that can excite people, we brainstormed very hard during the whole week.

At first, we build our idea based on the Entertainment direction like treating 3D scanning as a novel input for video game use. However, as we further understand the scanning technology, we slowly realize that 3D scanning is not mature enough to be very user friendly. As a result, it implies a lot of constraints on the game types we could think of.

Then we switched to a broader area – not just games, something new and fun, such as decorating your face using both virtual and real 3D objects. Based on all those ideas, we did our team pitch to the advisors/clients. On the other hand, we received reply from RAM that they are happy to provide us technology support including APIs, which significantly enhanced our confidence about the project.

After the pitch meeting, both advisors and we are not very content about existing ideas. We will further liberate our brainstorming domain – not just video games, entertaining area, but educational area, application area.

Challenges

Why 3D scanning matters and Why RAM technology can help us solve problems?

What we did for the week is try to answer this question and this is a very hard question. We explored a lot of area and want to replace the existing 2D photo technology with 3D. However, being restricted to not-so-user-friendly scanning process and relatively low accuracy problems, our brainstorming progress is slow. Yet we are still confident that there is a point that existing technology and customers’ needs will meet smoothly.

Schedule for Next Week

For the first half of the week, we will keep brainstorming, research, and develop ideas. For the second half of the week, we will narrow down one idea and set our milestones for this semester.
