Week 1

Overview of the Week

Our first week is a blast! We have successfully completed our first week with several cool ideas.

Our project goal is to use 3D scanning technology to create something new and valuable. This is a broad topic! We talked to advisors and technology supporters, discussed with each other, and finally came down several cool ideas to further develop. At first, we thought that we may need to handle 3D scanning technology directly, after advisor/supporter meeting, our understanding about our project have been significantly improved – we can leverage RAM technology to help us handle 3D scanning, and what we need to do is to build a new application/game to amaze the world!

Also, we nailed down our team name as “Nickel”. Nickel stands for 5 cents and we have 5 team members. Every cent counts so does every team member. We all love this name.

We established a Google Drive folder to share project files, and Google Calendar to share schedules. Plus, we created a Facebook group to post announce. And we all sit close to each other, which further guarantee that communication among team members will be smooth and effective.

We did a lot of research on the related work from wiki to specific applications. And we are inspired a lot from existing projects. Everyone in the team proposed a lot of ideas during the discussion. The whole team is really into the project.

Challenges:

We are all new to 3D scanning technology. It takes time for us to understand how to best leverage this cool technology. Also, our technology supporter – RAM Tech – hasn’t provided us SDK to use, so we are still very vague on what we can do with their support.

Since we don’t have much experience in making 3D scanning application/games, we may come up with some ideas that will be very hard to implement or there are unknown traps along the ideas.

Schedule for next week:

We will finish brainstorming, coming up with 3 or more ideas, and programmers will keep exploring how much we can use with RAM’s support. We will also make a small prototype to preliminarily verify whether the idea is doable.
