Organic Motion System

The markerless motion capture system by Organic Motion here at ETC uses multiple 2D video cameras to track the subject. The data output from each camera is fed into a vision processor which maps every pixel of information and triangulates the location of the subject by seeing where the various camera images intersect. The trick lies in the analysis methodology of this vast data set. The system dynamically makes decisions to designate and select which pixels are of higher value than others.

In this way it is similar to the way a human looks at a complex scene: head, hands and rapidly moving body parts hold more of our attention than static elements. Organic Motion’s approach makes it possible for the vision processor to churn through hundreds of megabytes of data per second and still deliver highly accurate real-time tracking results at high frame rates. The final output is a full 3D model of the subject, with 3D bone movement data down to millimeter precision. This information is then ready to be loaded directly into any form of animation or processing software, all in real-time.

Through this process, Organic Motion’s technology eliminates the body suit requirement and thereby dramatically improves the flexibility of a system that digitally sees people, as well as significantly reduces the costs to operate such a system.

Here’s a video to show the workflow when we use motion capture system here at ETC.
