Newsletter Week 5

Week 5 was, up till now, the most challenging yet. For starters, our schedule was packed full, we had quarters walkaround on monday, a visit to Elizabeth Forward high school on Wednesday, and a skype call with our FBI client on Friday, take into consideration deadlines with our electives, we knew we were up for a challenge.

We prepared for our presentation over the weekend, everyone working overtime, and it turned to be a tremendous success, we were able to clearly present our goals, design process, concept art, and current ideas, we got excellent feedback and that solidified our direction.

On Wednesday we went for a site visit at Elizabeth Forward high school, and it was a mindblowing experience, the school itself was amazing, with incredible facilities, a set of very open-minded faculty, but we were really impressed by what we learned from the students. We were very impressed by the level of maturity they had, they were able to understand the threats and consequences when dealing with the cyber world. Most of them have outgrown being bullied, and understand how to avoid predators. We were able to get a good grasp of their gaming habits, such as only playing call of duty, and that they really don’t enjoy puzzle solving as a game. In the end, we were able to use what we learnt to propel us into the right direction.

We spent the whole of Thursday night refining our final idea, story, and game concept. With what we learnt on Wednesday and with a client meeting the next day, we were able to be extremely productive.

Friday was the big day for us, our goal was to take everything we learnt on Monday and Wednesday, and convince both the FBI and Alice that our ideas were correct. But first, we have some questions for the FBI. We were able to get many very important details from the FBI, such as types of crimes against our target age group, the profiles of different types of criminals, the psychology of victims as well as their investigation process. We were delighted to hear that our story was spot on, and our direction was exactly what they had in mind. With this, we continue to work on our game design and playtest.
