Developing 'Space County', A Management Simulation Game

[Week 5] Development Blog: LOTS OF FEEDBACK!

We took all the positive and negative feedback we received from Week 4 and decided to implement those into Week 5

We made a prototype in Unity just to set the system up and create a game loop, which we can then add more details, art, and design to.

Since we couldn’t play test using the skeleton prototype, we also decided to make a paper prototype. It was very rough, but we wanted an idea that we could refer to while creating the digital prototype. Immediately after making the paper prototype, we asked some playtesters to come in a playtest for us. They liked it and gave us some feedback.

On the design side, we still wanted to implement a mini game. Our faculty suggested us to check out the game Paperboy. No one from the team had played the game. But as soon as we saw it, we loved it. It really fit the idea of how Census is going to be collected next year, by sending out invitations to their website, just like paperboy sends out paper!

We made a quick prototype in Unity just to see how it feels, by using some random free assets, but abandoned it immediately because it was no fun without a proper design. At the moment, that wasn’t our focus so we just let it be for the moment.

On the art side, our artist finalized the art guide, including color palette, character style and environment style. They made this cute little character concept art, and other 3D models of houses, trees, envelopes, etc.

We also finished working on our Team Picture! We went with something that would appear like a Census form.
