Developing 'Space County', A Management Simulation Game

[Week 4] Development Blog: QUARTERS!

Week 4 was big for us because of 1/4 walkarounds and sit-downs. We were prepared to present our idea and then get a bunch of feedback

Our programmers had already put together a working prototype which we could show for quarters. The feel of scrolling through the map, zooming and then tapping different areas was the main focus of the prototype.

We had 1/4 walkarounds on Monday. We told the faculty about the project, everything from the beginning and received some very valuable feedback.

On Tuesday, our designer wire-framed our idea on Balsamiq. We figured that explaining our idea would be much easier with this wire-frame.

During our client meeting, we showed our client the wire-frame, and she was still very much on board with the idea and had no objections. Later that day, we met Jesse Schell who gave us some more valuable feedback. We made a list of things that we need to educate about census and things that are fun. Then we mix-matched the two together, and came up with two mini games inspired by Crossy-Road and Whack-a-mole.

During quarter sit-downs, we received feedback on how to make the guest get a feeling of accomplishment when they play our game. We realized, since we’re making them play a mini-game to collect data, they should get some cathartic feeling while spending on the data they just received. Hence, we decided on showing strong emotional and visual feedback when you spend.

We finally finished the final draft of our poster, and sent it out for printing.

We finished our poster!
